On the Czech market, we represent two major European manufacturers of biomass boilers, the Austrian company KOHLBACH and the German company HDG Bavaria. Both manufacturers have been among the absolute European leaders for several decades. Offered boilers have a thermal power in a wide range from only 10 kW to 18.000 kW per combustion chamber. About biomass combustion


  • biomass in thermal energy means biomass of plant origin, i.e. woody plants and stalks (unless explicitly stated otherwise)

  • biomass can be burned in the form of wood logs, sawdust, pellets, wood briquettes, straw bales, etc., in large heat sources it is most often burned in the form of wood chips

  • calorific value of biomass is in the range of about 8 – 18 MJ/kg and is highly dependent on the water content, e.g. pellets (moisture content up to 10 %) have a calorific value of 16 – 18 MJ/kg and wood briquettes even above 18 MJ/kg, i.e. more than the highest quality brown coal

  • calorific value of wood chips is related to its type (green, brown, white), which specifies not only its composition but also the initial moisture content, calorific values are usually in the range of 8 – 12 MJ/kg

  • biomass is CO2 neutral, has almost zero sulfur content and a low ash content

  • biomass is a renewable (sustainable) energy source with excellent local availability

  • burning biomass reduces emissions of harmful substances from energetics and contributes to reducing emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), whose overproduction is considered one of the main causes of global warming

  • efficiency of biomass combustion for heating is between 80 – 90 %, when using condensing heat exchangers it can exceed the limit of 110 % (use of latent heat)

  • biomass is also suitable for the production of electricity and combined heat and power (CHP), for smaller electrical outputs (up to about 2 MW) is preferably used ORC systems, for higher outputs steam turbines are used

HDG Bavaria are robust technologically advanced Bavarian biomass boilers with lots of innovative technologies. The power range covers everything from households, farms and municipal buildings to industrial buildings. The boilers are designed to burn wood logs, chips, pellets or for the popular combination of pellets and wood logs, which combines the advantages of low–cost log heating with fully automatic burning and pellets loading.

Log Wood:

  • 15 – 50 kW, for burning logs 1/3 – 1 m long and wood briquettes
  • manual fuel loading

Wood chips:

  • 25 – 400 kW (800 kW cascade), for burning wood chips and shavings
  • up to approx. 80 kW fuel container directly attached to the boiler, for higher outputs – silo with rotary delivery system or walking floor feeding system

Pellets:

  • 10 – 400 kW (800 kW cascade), for burning pellets
  • up to approx. 50 kW pellets container directly attached to the boiler, for higher outputs – silo with rotary delivery system or vacuum delivery system

Log wood + pellets:

  • 10 – 50 kW, for burning pellets, logs up to a length of 1/2 m and wood briquettes
  • pellets container directly attached to the boiler and automatic pellets loading + manual loading of logs and briquettes

Combustion systems

KOHLBACH combustion systems have a sophisticated design with specially dimensioned combustion zones, moving grate and a system of hydraulic fuel load to the boiler without the need for belt or screw conveyors. By applying the design principles of TTT (Transport and mixing, Time of residence, Temperature) in the combustion process, low emission values of monitored substances and separation of a substantial part of the fly ash still in the combustion chamber space are ensured. Reliable long operating life of the boiler thanks to full refractory lining, water cooled grate frame and water cooled compression zone. KOHLBACH chambers also allow the combustion of untreated and unsorted fuel. The fuel loading system is resistant against unwanted objects – stones, soil, pieces of metal, etc., unique is the ability to deal with single pieces of planks in sizes up to 100 x 100 x 1000 mm. Rapid and simple installation thanks to pre–assembled modules. Control range 30 – 100 % of thermal power.

Boiler systems

KOHLBACH offers a complete portfolio of flue gas heat exchangers, including special spiral heat exchangers flue gas/thermal oil for applications with ORC systems. The exchangers are designed for use with KOHLBACH combustion systems. Each heat exchanger is designed with individual customer requirements in mind and optimized for the expected operating load and fuel quality. Heat exchangers are supplied as 2–pass or 3–pass, in a horizontal design for placement above the combustion chamber of the boiler, or in a vertical design for optimal use of the building space. Of course there are the systems of automatic cleaning with compressed air, which enable continuous operation of exchangers for up to 8.000 hours. For operation with an increased risk of overheating can be delivered safety heat exchanger for emergency cooling. The basic features of every KOHLBACH heat exchanger are operational reliability, long service intervals and a high degree of efficiency.

Accessories

KOHLBACH supplies a wide range of products for trouble–free operations, from thermometers and lambda probes to the famous robust walking floors and advanced control systems. Of course, there is a fast delivery of spare parts, not only small ones (converters, grate bars, ...), but also complete sets, such as a compression zone.
